Day 1 - Chicago (Joliet) to St. Louis

Day one complete, long day, early rise this morning to 9 p.m. arrival.  300 miles down and £30 worth of fuel in a v6 automatic isn't too bad.

Luckily Pat wasn't here as heidi managed to navigate, purposely, through to every site available on 66, starting with...

We headed further on visiting many many sights before landing in Pontiac including many defunct filling stations and giants such as this one living in Wilmington, the Gemini giant.

Heading on we found the amazing rocking chair which Billy got to sit on, I was tempted to get heidi to climb up.

A little way down the road late in the day past closing time we managed to hit Mr Henry and his amazing rabbit shop!  In Staunton.  Henry's Rabbit Ranch and Route 66 Emporium where we procured a number plate and map.  Very nice gentleman was Mr Henry.

Rounding off the day was tea in Weezy's in Hamel where we left a special note for Gary and Tracey to find in their visitors book before getting to salubrious Quality Inn.  You know if you have to mention quality in your name...  But a bed is a bed!  And we're getting in it.

Oh yeh, there was this mintage car we saw.

Here is a bridge for V.  Heidi says it was like the Bridges of Madison County, without the two pees we left.  It was the Sugar Creek Covered bridge, 1880.
